Ciao! I’m Allie.
I was born Allison Louise Cuozzo in the same hospital my grandma Rose gave birth to my father. My incredible mama had a VBAC with me in late July 1988 at Saint Raphael Hospital in New Haven, CT. I spent childhood being a sporty, sensitive girlie, raised as the youngest female among a big, Italian famiglia in southeastern Massachusetts. I graduated summa cum laude from Union College (NY) with a double degree in Spanish & Studio Arts. After receiving a postgraduate fellowship to work in a health clinic & foster a women’s microfinance program in rural Esmeraldas, a coastal province in Ecuador, the groundwork for my interest in care after el malparto (miscarriage), prenatal health, teenage pregnancies & labor comfort grew. I moved much farther north along the Pacific & cultivated a career in the design sector in San Francisco, California. It is here I met my first birthwork mentor, a home birth midwife (CPM). This approach to birth, alongside feeling incredibly activated to layer in other ways of feeling well beyond allopathic faculties, led me to pivot to complete a clinical program in holistic medicine in Sonoma. Along the way, I have always prioritized community, committed to stewarding relationships with the ecological landscape & believed that each of us is the imperfect boss of our unique natural composition, story & life.
Alongside birth work, my clinical work as a Functional Herbalist focuses on mitigating cervical cancer with native, antiviral plants. I advocate for the evolution & diversification of the cervicovaginal biome with lifestyle, nutritional, herbal & supplement support. Through my experience with these strategies, I formed Earth Allies, plant-based services + everyday products for biome specific care that celebrate the intersection of nature as your scientific ally & emotional bestie.
I share practical, organic options (like Skin Tea & 37 Weeks) that invite all to be in a balanced relationship with the body. I geek out on these formulations for pregnant mamas, infuse joy & intention into the product line to nourish body systems safely, & am driven by bringing people into the folds of a health system that puts wholeness instead of wellness at the center.
Birthwork as a career welcomed me as much as I welcomed it into my life. Soon after creating home (again) in Massachusetts, I met another homebirth midwife (CPM) who continues to mentor me, instilling the art & science of minimized interventions, care that is deeply caring & birth processes that center the individual’s autonomy at the forefront.
Although I predominately work in hospitals (Mt. Auburn, South Shore, Beth Israel Boston, Brigham, Cape Cod Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, UMASS Memorial), this homebirth-style approach to birth often attracts clients seeking to navigate birth unmedidcated.
My mission is to provide the most data-driven, heart centered, strongest + calmest birth experience to pregnant people within the Greater Boston community which I now (re)call home.
Tell me about you & say hi; I’d love to meet you: allie@bostonbirth.com
